Stage Musical Program
We need a monologue from a stage play for a 17 year old girl.?

My daughter is auditioning for a Governor’s Scholar Program next weekend. She is having difficulty coming up with a monologue. It must be 3 minutes and involve no dialect and be close to her age to portray. It can’t be from a musical. Anyone have a recommendations?

Hi Becky,

I googled “monologues for teens” and saw this link. Hopefully there’s something here your daughter can use

Good luck!

Way back in 1991, many of us saw the single-handed salvation and revival of the old-fashioned American-style Broadway musical comedy. True, it was in the form of a feature-length Disney cartoon, but Beauty and the Beast had it all: a wonderful, tuneful score (including a huge hit title-song), off-the-wall choreography, a great opposites-attract love story with an ultimately happy ending, comic sub…

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The musical film is a film genre in which several songs sung by the characters are interwoven into the narrative. The songs are used to advance the plot or develop the films characters, but some musical films (e.g.Down Argentine Way) simply plop the songs in as unrelated specialties as with Carmen Mirandas numbers. A subgenre of the musical film is the musical comedy, which includes a strong element of humour as well as the usual music, dancing and storyline. The musical film was a natural development of the stage musical. Typically, the biggest difference between film and stage musicals is the use of lavish background scenery which would be impractical in a theater. Musical films characteristically contain elements reminiscent of theater; performers often treat their song and dance numbers as if there is a live audience watching. In a sense, the viewer becomes the deictic audience, as the performer looks directly into the camera and performs to it. Creating America on Stage

Musical theater has long suffered the reputation of being unrealistic and unsophisticated with no real social significance. However, musical theater has been an integral part of American culture since the early Twentieth Century. Specifically, it was Jewish composers and lyricists who created and defined America on stage. These writers were immigrants themselves, came from immigrant families, or grew up as secondgeneration Jews in a land troubled by anti Semitism; still, they were the ones who considered America a worthwhile topic for the stage. This book defines the unique attributes of Jewish music and lyrics, focusing on the major works of Irving Berlin, Jerome Kern, George and Ira Gershwin, Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II. Embedding condemnations of Americas social weaknesses into natural images of the landscape, they created a revolutionary depiction of America for the musical stage. Especially useful for scholars of American Studies, Jewish Studies, Drama, Music, and Popular Culture, and for Broadway aficionados, this book illustrates how what was initially considered mere casual entertainment actually became a renaissance in American theater.
