The Pirate Queen (Broadway)?
Yesterday I was in NYC to see Mamma Mia (which I loved) and I noticed quite a lot of advertizement for the Pirate Queen and I walked by that theartre and the pictures and costumes looked really cool. But one of the people I went with told me her friend went to see it and it sucked.
Did anyone else see it? What did you think?
I haven’t seen it, but I can tell you what Entertainment Weekly said about it in their magazine :
“This is what happens when Les Mis throws up Riverdance. The creators of both behemoths team up for the true tale of Grace O’Malley, a 16th-century seafarer and warrior who takes on men, masts, and Queen Elizabeth I. Stephanie J. Block is quite appealing as the swashbuckling leading lass, and occasionally the bombast takes on a pulse-quickening ardor, in a circa-1987 kind of way. But as the confusing story sails into choppy seas, weighed down by watery, retitive ballads, the only rathional reaction is a growling arrrgghhh!”
They gave it a C-, and this article was written by Jason Clark.
They are very harsh, but excellent critics.
