Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Alzira is an opera in a prologue and two acts by Giuseppe Verdi to an Italian libretto by Salvadore Cammarano, based on the play Alzire, ou les Am ricains by Voltaire. The first performance was at the Teatro San Carlo, Naples, on August 12, 1845. The contemporary reviews were mixed, and the first run of the opera received only 4 further performances. In modern times, the opera is rarely performed. It was not until January 1968 that it was first given in the US and only in a concert version. Its UK premiere took place on 10 February 1970 at the Collegiate Theatre in London. A performance was given at the Royal Opera House in London in July 1996 and it was included in 2000 in the Sarasota Operas Verdi Cycle of all of the composers operas to be performed by 2013. From January 2010, it was presented by the Theater St Gallen in Switzerland. High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The Theater an der Wien (The Theatre on the Wien River) is an opera house in Vienna. The theater opened in 1801 and was the brainchild of the Viennese theatrical impresario Emanuel Schikaneder, who is best known to history as Mozarts librettist and collaborator on the opera The Magic Flute (1791). Schikaneders troupe had already been successfully performing for several years in Vienna in the smaller (800seat) Theater auf der Wieden, where The Magic Flute had premiered. Schikaneder, whose performances often emphasized spectacle and scenery, felt ready to move to a larger and better equipped venue. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Timpledon, Miriam T./ Marseken, Susan F. The Beggars Opera introduced to theater the balladopera and an immortal cast of characters. The Peachums, employers of a company of pickpockets, shoplifters, and thieves, raised their daughter Polly for finer things, but she has done a dreadful deed. She has married for love. Her husband is Macheath, so exquisite a robber he might have been a lawyer or lord, and so devoted to matrimony that he has two or three wives already. Author: Gay, John/ Roberts, Edgar V. Bandanna (Opera)

Bandanna (Opera)

$71.7

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Bandanna is an English language opera in a prologue and two acts by Daron Hagen, first performed by the The University of Texas at Austin opera theater in Austin, February 25, 1999. The libretto is by Irish poet Paul Muldoon. The story of the Venetian Moor is recast and updated to 1968 by combining elements of the original Venetian story, William Shakespeares Othello, Giuseppe Verdis opera Otello, and new, original characters and situations. The operas unifying concept is the idea of the borderlines between emotional, metaphysical and moral states. The commission itself is notable for two reasons: first, it stipulated that there be no strings in the pit, second, it was financed by a consortium of over one hundred college bands from across the United States, all members of the College Band Directors National Association.
